Episode 28

Law Enforcement and the Transition to Executive Protection | Kevin Ghee

Kevin Ghee had a distinguished law enforcement career before he transitioned over to a very successful career in close protection. In this episode of Short Circuit, we’re talking about the necessary things to take into consideration when someone wants to transition from law enforcement to EP.

This jam-packed episode is definitely for you if you are a law enforcement officer and are interested in getting into the security field or if you have already made the jump but aren’t getting traction. And for the working EP operators, we’ll go over some tips on how EP agents can better interact and cooperate with law enforcement.

In this episode, listen in to hear Elijah and Kevin chat about:

  • Whether the crossover from a law enforcement career to executive protection is as natural and fitting as it seems?
  • What happens when you don’t have a badge anymore? And, when you don't have the gun, how does that change the dynamic when you’re in the private EP sector?
  • When a client hires someone who is law enforcement, is there an expectation for certain powers and capacities beyond that of any other operator?
  • What advice do you have for active-duty law enforcement that wants to transition to get into the private sector?
  • Finally, how should those of us in executive protection interact with law enforcement?

So, whether you are just starting out or have been in the industry for years, Kevin gives us all nice a reminder that:

“You have to understand the science within executive protection, and you have to understand what executive protection is. Knowing what to do is one thing but knowing why you’re doing it is the most important piece of it.”
